34th Lancaster (St Chad’s) Scout Group
Another busy year of Scouting was rounded off by our annual Sausage Sizzle at Silverhelme Campsite in Silverdale. We were very pleased to be able to present Thomas with his Chief Scout’s Bronze Award – the highest award a Beaver Scout can achieve! We said goodbye to Baloo (aka Ellie), who is off to study Criminology and History at Derby. She will join a Scout Group closer to university to continue her leadership training and will return to 34th whenever she can. We wish her all the luck in the world and will miss her. Congratulations also go to Scott, who successfully completed his PGCE in Secondary Maths. He joins the Maths Department at Ripley St Thomas in September. Many of our Scouts are in Denmark as I write, so watch October’s Spectrum for a report on their exploits!
Finally, thanks to Tess, Jackie, Sarah, Barbara, Carol, Ellie, Scott, Kathryn, Karen, Alex, Jamal and Daniel, without whom Scouting at St Chad’s just couldn’t happen.
Sarah (Group Scout Leader)
Rainbows:-
In June the Rainbows held their annual pet show and had a party to say goodbye to Leah who had been a Rainbow leader from starting her degree at Lancaster 3 years ago, she is now off to Australia. On the 19th July they had another party to say goodbye to 5 Rainbows who are moving up to Brownies and to Lynne, who has finished after nearly 20 years of service. She is keeping on her secretarial roles in the movement we are glad to say. From September I will be running Rainbows with the help of Katy and Claire Ogunsola, but we will need more girls from the ages of 5-7 to replace the ones we have lost.
Brownies:-
In July the Brownies have had an evening in the splash pool and on the adventure playground in Happy Mount Park, an evening on the beach at Half Moon Bay, a day at Blackpool zoo with the Rainbows and an evening at Megazone. When we said goodbye to Stephanie, who has been a leader for 6 years since she came to Lancaster as a student, she has moved to Preston now and wants to help out there. From September Debbie will be running Brownies and I will be an Assistant leader with Karen, Abi and Donna.
Guides:-
The Guides have had an extremely busy term with visits to Blackpool, Morecambe and entering the Derham cup with a Ready Steady Cook theme. They are looking forward to their trip to Waddow in August.
